Description
Test both Ethernet and USB 3 "SuperSpeed" devices in a sealed RF environment — two independent filters in a single housing, now covering the latest LTE cellular bands. Each section passes your data clean while rejecting cellular, LTE, and WiFi interference.
- Two fully independent, fully passive filter sections in one housing — a 10/100/1000 Ethernet filter and a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed filter — saving I/O plate space and cost versus two separate filters
- Two filtering approaches, each matched to its data rate: a precision low-pass for the Ethernet section, our patented signal-phasing topology for the USB 3 SuperSpeed section (why, below)
- Ethernet section: 10/100/1000 low-pass on all eight RJ-45 lines — over 80 dB above 1 GHz, flat below 480 MHz, rejecting cellular/LTE/WiFi above 700 MHz by more than 70 dB; PoE pass-through compatible
- USB 3 section: patented signal-phasing topology (two US patents), NOT a low-pass filter — discriminates SuperSpeed data from RF interference rather than attenuating both; 80 dB RF rejection
- USB section handles USB 1.1, 2.0 and 3.x "SuperSpeed" over standard Type-A — no inherent speed limit in the filter, set by total cable attenuation
- LAN section filters all eight RJ-45 lines (10/100 uses four, gigabit uses all eight) — wire any signal onto any line and use it as a general-purpose filtered interface; high-performance inductors up to 250 mA per line, under 1.5 Ω DC resistance per path
- Proper enumeration over a direct "copper" path — test hiccups are exchanged end-to-end, with none of the silent hang-ups a fiber or media-converter link can hide
- Fully passive by design — no active components, no firmware, nothing that could be subverted in a data-side attack
- 100% made in USA
- USB section appears to the link as roughly 1–1.5 m of USB cable — budget for it in your overall cable length
- Balanced filtering for minimal ringing
- One USB 3.0 Type-A jumper and one RJ-45 Ethernet jumper cable included — one per section
- Secured with multiple 4-40 screws (mounting template included) for a reliable, repeatable RF seat — not a single-nut mount that can loosen and leak
- Rugged machined-aluminum housing
- Works with any RF test enclosure or screen room
The JRE LAN-USB 3 is two separate, fully independent filtered interfaces — one 10/100/1000 Ethernet, one USB 3.0 SuperSpeed — built into a single rugged machined-aluminum housing. Combining them on one footprint saves space on the I/O plate and costs less than two stand-alone filters.
What's worth understanding about this combo is that the two sections filter on different principles, because they run at different speeds. The Ethernet section is a precision low-pass filter — and for 10/100/1000 Ethernet that's exactly right. Gigabit Ethernet data sits well below the wireless bands, so there's a clean gap between your data (below 480 MHz) and the interference you're keeping out (cellular, LTE, and WiFi, above 700 MHz); a low-pass filter passes everything below the gap untouched and rejects everything above it by better than 70–80 dB.
The USB 3 SuperSpeed section can't work that way. As USB rates climbed into the SuperSpeed range, the data itself moved up into the same frequency band as the interference — and a low-pass filter can no longer tell them apart: it would attenuate both. So this section uses our patented signal-phasing design — for which we hold two US patents — which exploits the fact that the USB data travels as a balanced differential signal while the interfering RF appears as common mode. Using signal-phasing techniques and topology, it discriminates between the two — rejecting the RF while passing the data clean — with no low-pass filtering anywhere on the data conductors. This is especially valuable where a low-pass filter fails: when the signaling rate falls inside the wireless bands, or when the interfering source itself sits inside a low-pass filter's pass band (key fobs, RFID).
Ethernet / LAN section. A 10/100/1000 low-pass filter on all eight RJ-45 lines, providing exceptional RF shielding on every line. It rejects everything above the 700 MHz cellular bands while passing data clean between routers, switches, access points, or any RJ-45 device. Because all eight lines are filtered (10/100 Ethernet uses four of the eight, gigabit uses all eight), you can wire any signal onto any line and pass it across the filter — anything below 480 MHz passes, anything above 700 MHz is attenuated by more than 70 dB — which makes it handy as a general-purpose filtered interface, not just for Ethernet. High-performance inductors allow up to 250 mA per line with under 1.5 Ω DC resistance on any path. Fully Ethernet PoE compatible. One RJ-45 Ethernet jumper cable included.
USB 3 section. Balanced differential data pairs using the patented signal-phasing topology, plus filtered power and return lines. Standard USB Type-A connectors for simple, reliable connection. Passes USB 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 SuperSpeed data while rejecting undesired RF by 80 dB. The filter has no speed limit of its own; electrically it "looks like" roughly 1 to 1.5 m of USB cable, and it's the total attenuation of the filter plus your connecting cables that sets the achievable rate — with the included jumper you'll reliably pass 5 Gbps and often up to 10 Gbps depending on your devices and cabling, and for the fastest rates over longer runs you'd use an active cable on the external side. One USB 3.0 Type-A male-to-male jumper cable included. For the full cable-length and active-cable discussion, see USB-3 and USB-C Special Considerations.
Need the sections separately? See the single JRE LAN-1 and JRE USB 3-1 filters. Need 10G Ethernet instead of gigabit? The JRE LAN10G-USB 3 pairs a 10GBASE-T filter with the same USB 3 section.
