SKU: JRE LAN-10G-1 Category:

Description

Test 10GBASE-T Ethernet devices in a sealed RF environment without throttling your data. The LAN-10G-1's patented design is not a low-pass filter, so it rejects wireless RF interference without touching the high-speed data the way conventional Ethernet filters do.

  • Built for 10GBASE-T over copper RJ-45, and the NBASE-T rates (2.5G/5GBASE-T) that share the same balanced twisted-pair signaling
  • Patented signal-phasing topology discriminates the differential data from common-mode RF interference, no low-pass filtering on any data conductor
  • Passes the full data stream untouched while rejecting wireless RF, especially valuable when the data rate and the interference share the same frequency band, or where a low-pass Ethernet filter would clobber the signal (keyfob, RFID, and similar testing)
  • Direct copper RJ-45-to-RJ-45 path, link negotiation and error "hiccups" are exchanged end-to-end, so nothing is silently masked the way a fiber media converter can hide a hang-up
  • Fully passive, no active components, no firmware, nothing that could be subverted in a data-side attack
  • 100% made in USA
  • PoE pass-through compatible
  • ~80 dB conducted attenuation, 50 MHz to over 6 GHz
  • Appears to the link as roughly 3–5 m of additional Ethernet cable, budget for it in your overall cable length
  • Rugged machined-aluminum housing
  • Works with any RF test enclosure or screen room

The JRE LAN-10G-1 is a 10GBASE-T compliant filtered interface using standard RJ-45 connectors, built into a machined-aluminum housing that gives exceptional RF shielding on every data and power line.

It works on an entirely different principle from older Ethernet filters. Earlier designs simply low-pass filtered the data lines to knock down interfering wireless RF, but as data rates climbed, the data itself moved up into the same frequency range as the interference, and a low-pass filter can no longer tell them apart: it attenuates both. Our patented design instead exploits the fact that the Ethernet data is a balanced differential signal while the interfering RF appears as common mode. Using signal-phasing techniques and topology, it discriminates between the two and rejects the RF while passing the data clean, no low-pass filtering anywhere on the data conductors.

Choosing the right filter for your link. This filter is purpose-built for 10GBASE-T — the copper, twisted-pair PHY (PAM-16 over four balanced pairs) on RJ-45. It is not compatible with 10GBASE-R / SFP+ / fiber-based 10G, which is a fundamentally different serial signaling scheme (64b/66b) — for those links, a fiber pass-through is the right choice. The phasing technique also works best when everything in the path is true, high-balance 10GBASE-T gear and cabling; if you are only running 10/100/1000, our LAN-1 is purpose-built for those speeds and will give you better isolation there. When in doubt, tell us what's on each end and we'll point you to the right part.

Because the connection through the filter is direct "copper" RJ-45 to RJ-45, your devices see a normal electrical link, any test hiccups are properly negotiated between them, with none of the undetected hang-ups that fiber-optic or media-converter interfaces can introduce. Standard RJ-45 female connectors make for simple, reliable hookup, and a short male-to-male Ethernet jumper is included. The interface is fully PoE compatible, and the data filtering provides 80 dB of rejection to undesired wireless RF.

Reliable shielding starts at the mounting. The LAN-10G-1 secures to the enclosure wall with a ring of 4-40 screws (drilling template included for standalone installation), drawing the filter flange flat and tight against the wall around its entire perimeter. We have tested competitive filters that use a single center hole and a large securing nut, those are prone to leakage, because the coarse nut thread never seats the body reliably flat, and a single mechanical anchor works loose over time. Even a tiny loss of contact pressure opens an RF leak. Every LAN-10G-1 specification is measured with the filter installed in an enclosure, and it holds that performance no matter how many times the connector is mated or the filter gets bumped and jostled on the bench. The compact footprint also leaves room for more filters on the same I/O plate.
