Description
Test Ethernet-connected devices in a sealed RF environment. The LAN-1 passes 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet cleanly while rejecting the cellular, LTE, WiFi and other wireless signals that would otherwise leak in or out on the cable.
- Passes 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet while rejecting cellular, LTE, WiFi and everything above 700 MHz
- All eight RJ-45 lines filtered — usable as a general 8-line filtered interface, not just for Ethernet
- Flat passband to ~480 MHz; greater than 70 dB rejection above 700 MHz, greater than 80 dB from 1 GHz through 6 GHz
- Clean low-pass design purpose-built for 10/100/1000 (for 10GBASE-T, see the LAN-10G)
- Fully passive — no active components, no firmware, nothing that could be subverted in a data-side attack
- 100% made in USA
- PoE pass-through compatible — high-performance inductors carry up to 250 mA per line at under 1.5 Ω DC
- Balanced filtering for minimal ringing
- Also accepts RJ-11 plugs and cables, with the same filtering
- Rugged machined-aluminum housing
- Works with any RF test enclosure or screen room
The JRE LAN-1 is a 10/100/1000 Ethernet low-pass filtered interface built into a machined-aluminum housing that gives exceptional RF shielding on all eight signal lines. It passes data between RJ-45-connected devices — routers, switches, access points and the like — while rejecting frequencies above the ~700 MHz cellular bands.
For Ethernet at these speeds, a low-pass filter is exactly the right tool. The 10/100/1000BASE-T data spectrum sits well below the wireless bands you want to keep out, so a clean low-pass design passes the data untouched while sharply attenuating cellular, LTE and WiFi — simple, robust, and excellent isolation. (This is the key difference from 10G: at 10GBASE-T speeds the data itself climbs up into those same wireless bands, so a low-pass filter can no longer separate the two — that's why our LAN-10G uses a different patented phasing approach. For gigabit and below, though, the LAN-1 is the purpose-built and better-isolating choice.)
Because all eight lines are filtered — 10/100 Ethernet uses only four of the eight, while 1000 uses all eight — the LAN-1 doubles as a general-purpose filtered interface. You can wire any signal onto any of the eight pins and pass it across the filter, knowing that anything below 480 MHz passes and anything above 700 MHz is knocked down by more than 70 dB. Standard RJ-45 jacks make for simple, reliable connection, and RJ-11 plugs insert right into the same jack with identical filtering — handy for telephone-style or serial connections.
The interface is fully PoE compatible. High-performance inductors carry up to 250 mA per path at a DC resistance below 1.5 Ω, so PoE power passes without trouble, and the balanced filtering on every pair keeps ringing to a minimum. Rejection runs greater than 80 dB from 1 GHz through 6 GHz.
The fully passive design carries the same advantage as the rest of our filter line: no active components, no firmware, nothing in the data path that could be compromised — which, together with 100% USA manufacturing, makes the LAN-1 an easy fit for defense and security work.
Reliable shielding starts at the mounting. The LAN-1 secures to the enclosure wall with a ring of 4-40 screws (drilling template included for standalone installation), drawing the filter flange flat and tight against the wall around its entire perimeter. We have tested competitive filters that use a single center hole and a large securing nut — those are prone to leakage, because the coarse nut thread never seats the body reliably flat, and a single mechanical anchor works loose over time. Even a tiny loss of contact pressure opens an RF leak. Every LAN-1 specification is measured with the filter installed in an enclosure, and it holds that performance no matter how many times the connector is mated or the filter gets bumped and jostled on the bench. The compact footprint also leaves room for more filters on the same I/O plate.
